Food:

Interesting and tasty, with generous portions. Try the delicious wood-fired pork belly satays roasted with fennel seed and honey glaze; the Cape Malay bobotie spring rolls with red onion marmalade; or the smoked venison carpaccio with preserved figs. Mains include marinated pork loin with bubble and squeak, never-frozen hake and skinny fries, and rich venison and Guinness pot pie. Among the desserts are classic tarte tatin with homemade ice cream, and oozy dark chocolate fondant.

Wine:

Small but very interesting list with some unusual Cape treasures.

Service:

From the owner it’s very good. Other staff tends to wander.

Ambience:

The large semi-industrial space feels like the vestibule of a building. The overlit space precludes any cosy moments.

And...:

Park in the building, and make sure you order a shot of the caramel vodka, ice cold. (GL, November 2011)
