Food:

This is stunningly original, flavoursome and fresh food. Everything is super-fresh and as natural as possible. The garden produce remains the focal point, presented in a riot of colourful beetroot, ruby grapefruit, pomegranate arils, courgette, cherry tomato, aubergine, baby salad leaves, fresh guava, papaya, sweetcorn and yellow peppers. The humble cauliflower reaches gourmet heights served with melted gorgonzola cheese and slivers of fresh guava. For meat lovers there are superb steaks, lamb chops and fish and chicken dishes, served with crunchy hand-cut chips flecked with smoked salt flakes – enough to make any Irishman weep.

Wine:

Small, but well-balanced list. Wines from neighbouring farms are offered by bottle or glass, and there's a fantastic selection of beers.

Service:

So good they're destined to be poached! Attentive, friendly, charming, skilled, and discreet too. Everything you’d want in a professional.

Ambience:

You’ve got to love a place where a fresh cauliflower has pride of place as a table decoration. The restaurant was erected in steel and glass where the old cow shed once stood: a few whitewashed central pillars remain as an architectural feature. The menu, on a large board at one end, is dominated by a representation of a huge Poenskop Angus. Big bull is watching you...

And...:

There are tours of the gardens at 10am every day. Pick the brain of the resident green-thumbed expert as the team harvests the day’s produce. The R10 fee to enter the property goes to the farm workers’ trust. (FM, October 2011)
