In their first year of business this restaurant has established a loyal following. The Cape bokkom salad is one of the firm favourites on the menu with locals and tourists alike. For folks who don't like the idea of salty dried fish, there's a purely vegetarian option available too. Food is proudly South African with a contemporary gourmet twist and features the flavours of the Cape in the form of pickled ox tongue, snoek, snysels and seasonal ingredients such as fresh mushrooms in winter. Desserts such as the pear and liquorice tart, steamed ginger and honey pudding and brioche wentelteefjes more than match the mains and are worth leaving room for. All dishes carry wine recommendations – and they not automatically La Motte wines.
Wine:La Motte features prominently but not exclusively. There's something for a variety of tastes and price sensitivities.
Service:Warmly charming and eager to please. They are happy to be as friendly or professionally reserved as you allow them to be.
Ambience:There's a lovely interplay between the outdoors and the inside thanks to the floor-to-ceiling glass wall. Classy, contemporary and elegant, with more than just a nod to artist Pierneef. Some of the famous artist's motifs have inspired the furniture and are also silk-screened onto seatback covers. Check out the quirky chandeliers...
And...:Ignore the farm shop at your peril. There are some fantastic gourmet items inside. (FM, October 2011)
