Food:

The small chalkboard menu is well geared towards the tourist trade. Aside from the small breakfast menu, options are – perhaps unsurprisingly – heavy on the game meats. Expect the likes of venison carpaccio, a rather crumbly eland pâté accompanied by snakeberry chilli jam, or a flaky springbok pie. A few simple pasta dishes and salads are on offer for non-carnivores. There’s a good range of desserts, but avoid the coffee.

Wine:

Quirkily printed on a magnum wine bottle, there’s an impressive range of cultivars from exclusively local estates at excellent prices.

Service:

Simple and straightforward, but on the ball.

Ambience:

A stylish African space of rough stone walls and fynbos flower arrangements. There are lovely garden tables on offer too.

And...:

Leave time for a tour through this fascinating cultural centre and a stroll in the indigenous herb garden. (RH, October 2011)
