The menu is massive and can be a bit intimidating. Sashimi, tempura, teriyaki, kushiyaki, ceviche, oysters: they’re all there. Once you decide how you want your dish prepared, you have to pick what you actually want to eat. Vegetables, seafood, poultry or meat? And then you’ll notice there’s a whole section for wood-fired oven dishes like pork belly with spicy miso, or roast lobster and chilli sauce. It’s not easy. Be assured of one thing though: whatever you order, you’ll enjoy. The food is sublime and boasts phenomenal textures and flavours. There’s a lot to choose from, but do try the yellowtail sashimi with jalapenos, and the scallop tempura. Both are world-class.
Wine:Plenty to choose from, with local farms as well as international representatives. The sake list and some cool cocktails are also worth a mention.
Ambience:It’s a massive, double-volume space, which – because of its sheer size – offers quite a challenge for creating atmosphere. At times it can feel like an airport hangar. Eating at the counter is an option if you feel like a bit more activity.
And...:This is not a cheap restaurant, but the food sets a new standard for its kind in this country. Save up and try the bento box meals. They are great value for money and still provide the whole Nobu experience. (AF, October 2011)
